Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being​

We believe that promoting and protecting the health and well-being of our employees is not only a moral responsibility but also a business imperative that contributes to our overall success.

One of the ways we are supporting SDG3 is by implementing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH&S MS) according to ISO45001. This system helps us identify and assess occupational health and safety hazards, implement controls and procedures to prevent incidents, and continuously improve our OH&S performance.

In addition to our OH&S initiatives, we have also implemented several wellness programs to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent illness. For example, we have launched a “Zero Tobacco” campaign in North America to encourage our employees to quit smoking and support them in their efforts. We also have a internal gym where employees can exercise and stay active during their workday.

Moreover, we support and promote vaccination as an essential tool to prevent illness and protect public health. We provide our employees with access to vaccinations, including the COVID shots, and encourage them to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Goal 4: Quality Education

We recognize the vital role that education plays in promoting sustainable development and creating a better future for all. We are dedicated to ensuring access to quality education for all our stakeholders and continuously working towards improving education in our local communities through our CSR programs with young generations.

To achieve this, we continuously provide on-demand and specific training materials, programs, and tools to all employees. We believe that investing in the education and training of our employees is crucial to improving productivity and ensuring sustainable growth. Our training programs cover various topics such as sustainability, diversity, and leadership, and are designed to support the personal and professional development of our employees.

Furthermore, we continuously work towards improving and contributing to the educational situation within our local communities. We believe that education is essential in promoting social and economic development, and we strive to support educational initiatives through donation of school supplies at the beginning of each year to needy families. We also collaborate with local schools, universities, and NGOs to provide support, resources, and expertise to promote quality education for all through scholarship programs, schools’ renovation and building. Goal 5: Gender Equality

We are aware of the importance of gender equality as a key driver for sustainable development. We are committed to promoting a culture based on gender equality through women’s empowerment, and we strive to create an environment that supports and encourages women to excel in their roles.

We continuously implement fair operating practices to ensure that gender equality is a key consideration in all aspects of our business. This includes regularly tracking and analyzing gender-related gaps across all our plants, and taking steps to address any disparities that we identify.

We also place a strong emphasis on promoting and improving a culture based on diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of our plants. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential, regardless of their gender, race, or any other characteristic.

In addition, we regularly promote women’s empowerment through internal and external awareness sessions, as well as through various CSR activities. We believe that by empowering women, we can help build stronger communities and create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

To achieve this goal, we have implemented several initiatives that focus on reducing our water consumption, monitoring and controlling our effluents and wastewater, as well as promoting recycling and reuse programs.

One of our key initiatives is the implementation of water consumption monitoring and reduction programs across all our facilities. We regularly monitor our water usage and identify areas where we can optimize our consumption. By doing so, we have been able to reduce our water usage by a significant percentage over the years.

In addition to monitoring our water consumption, we also have strict effluent and wastewater monitoring parameters in place. We monitor various parameters to ensure that our effluents and wastewater are within acceptable limits before being released into the environment. We also have advanced treatment facilities in place to treat our wastewater and ensure that it meets the required standards.

Another important initiative that we have implemented is our recycling and reuse programs. We have implemented several measures to reduce water consumption, such as the use of recycled water in our operations. We also recycle our wastewater through advanced treatment processes, and reuse it for various purposes such as irrigation and cleaning.

Finally, we have implemented close circuits on industrial water to ensure that water is used in a closed-loop system. By doing so, we minimize the amount of water that is wasted and reduce our overall water usage.

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

We understand the importance of the renewable energies to compensate for the continous loss of our natural resources. That’s why at COFICAB, we are committed to implementing various initiatives to reduce our energy consumption, increase energy efficiency, and promote the use of renewable energy sources.

One of our main energy reduction programs involves replacing old equipment with new, more energy-efficient electrical equipment. We also regularly purchase new electrical equipment that meets or exceeds energy efficiency standards. Additionally, we have implemented energy efficiency monitoring programs to track our energy usage and identify areas where we can further reduce our consumption.

As part of our commitment to promoting renewable energy, we have implemented several PV projects and wind power initiatives. We have installed solar panels at various sites to generate clean energy and reduce our reliance on non-renewable sources.

We also tend to work with suppliers who provide 100% green energy supply, promoting a better energy mix and reducing our carbon footprint. In addition, we conduct regular supplier environmental assessments to ensure that our suppliers share our commitment to sustainability and are actively working towards reducing their environmental impact.

Furthermore, we conduct energy audits on our group to identify opportunities for further energy reduction and efficiency improvement. We use the results of these audits to develop and implement action plans to reduce our energy consumption and promote sustainable practices.

To achieve this goal, we have established a policy against injustice and continuously monitor and improve our practices to ensure that we are always providing a safe and inclusive workplace. We strive to comply with and proactively go beyond labor law regulations and working standards, ensuring that our employees have access to fair wages, benefits, and working conditions.

We also believe in investing equally in the professional development of all our employees, providing training and mentorship opportunities to help them grow and advance in their careers. As part of our CSR policy, we heavily focus on two main axis which are the Education and the Environment. Accordingly, one of our main CSR actions that is repeated each year is the building and renovation of schools in rural areas and in the local communities where we operate, providing an inclusive, and more comfortable learning environment for students.

We also focus on creating and renovating green and public spaces that promote safe and inclusive community engagement and enhance the well-being of residents. Our CEO is a founding member of the ABLC, which is a platform for business leaders to exchange ideas and collaborate on sustainable business practices. Our participation in the ABLC provides us with opportunities to learn from other businesses and experts and to promote sustainable practices across industries in Africa.

Moreover, we recognise the importance of working with NGOs to achieve the 17 UN goals. Accordingly, we have established partnerships and collaborated with several NGOs on various projects, such as Reforestation, Cleaning Campaigns, Charity, Investments aids for woman entrepreneurs,….
